Trust the Trail

When I graduated college, the cake on the table read a proverb, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” After 15 years in pastoral ministry, it surely has proven true. We might imagine plans for what our life will look like, how our families or calling might turn out, but it is God alone who directs our path.

Some time ago, I was returning home from a pastoral conference, cut short due to two deaths in the congregation. The stress was building from multiple places including my own inner world. The amount of content going on in my head began to overwhelm me. I pulled off at a gas station and called a friend. As I shared my struggles and worry with him, I looked ahead of me and saw a sign. I was traveling through the mountains and there was literally a trail sign. The sign read, “Follow your trail.”

That began for me the unpleasant but amazing inward journey with Christ. Through many turns and twists which I did not expect, the journey as fostered growth, freedom, and how to receive God’s kindness. Through every trail trial, Jesus teaches us one of the most important lesson of life: trust the trail. As He leads you through every valley and shadow, He knows what He is doing. He knows that lying ahead are green pastures and still waters yet to be discovered.

This website is dedicated to inviting others to discover and experience that same gracious guidance of God in their own heart and life. The trail might twist and turn. You might climb and fall and get up again. You might move with purpose at times and other times find yourself able to do nothing more than trudge the trail. No matter what, only one thing matters, that you keep hearing and trusting the voice of Him who says, “Follow Me.”
